What Do the Tool Kit Surveys Measure?

The Tool Kit’s surveys are designed to yield information and insights that help Clubs support achievement of two key goals of the 2002-2006 Strategic Plan that BGCA has established for the entire Boys & Girls Club Movement.

Goal 1: Deepening Impact

The surveys collect data about young people’s participation and experiences in Clubs, including:

  • Demographics (age, gender, race/ethnicity)
  • Club membership and attendance levels
  • Participation in Club activities
  • Connections with adults and peers at Clubs (at the heart of our Movement’s Youth Development Strategy)
  • Views about the benefits of Club involvement


Goal 2: Strengthening Youth Character

Club experiences and affiliation are expected to strengthen youth character, as evidenced by caring, responsible and productive behavior. The survey instruments are made up of clusters of questions that examine the following measures of character:
